Umed Mobile Clinic

Introduction:

Manavya’s mobile clinic is active in 7 villages and very recently added 3 more villages, Bhukum, Wagh Wasti and Labour camp of Matalwadi. Currently, Umed mobile clinic covers 10 villages and 2 slums in Mahadeo Nagar and Mhatoba Nagar near Paud road, Pune.

Last year, Mobile clinic mainly worked on the issue of Anaemia among teenage girls, married women and women in menopause age group by conducting HB (Haemoglobin) check-up camps in the villages and slum communities.

Various awareness programmes were conducted on Domestic violence, Hygiene and Cleanliness, Cancer and we also took active participation in formation of Bachat Gat (Self Help Groups). We also organized camps for Physiotherapy programmes for pain management, Skin checkups, Paediatrics, Eye, Dental, Gyneac and Obstruct checkups.

We also work on Social issues such as working towards decreasing the number of school dropouts in villages and slum communities by arranging special training programmes for teachers. We encourage and help them to arrive at solutions most suited for their school dropout problem. Umed mobile clinic’s team visits villages and counsel the villagers, holds discussions with the Sarpanch and members of Gram Panchayat to formulate ways to encourage children to attend school. Meetings with Education officer of Mulshi District were also conducted to arrest this grave school dropout issue.

Need for Mobile Clinic:

Regular visits to the villages in Mulshi Taluka highlighted various major health problems and social problems of the villagers. Our objectives are to help them realise their health status and provide them with health services to help them improve their health conditions through the following activities;

To provide villages of Mulshi Taluka with affordable medical services and medicines.

Through conducting camps such as Dental, Skin, Blood Sugar, HB and General Health Checkups, make them aware of their health status.

To organise programmes that give information regarding prevention and maintenance of health, in sync with the above mentioned camps.

To work on creating awareness regarding the importance teenage and married women’s health and ways of improving the same.

To reduce school dropout rates of rural children and work with various authorities (Gram Panchayat, Sarpanch, School teachers, etc) to reduce this issue.

Due to inadequate funding for the current year, we had to restrict Mobile Clinic to 3 villages (Chale, Sawar Gaon, Kasar-Amboli in Mulshi Taluka ) and 2 slums ( Mahadeo Nagar and Mhatoba Nagar ). Hence we are in urgent need of financial assistance for the current year to continue with our medical assistance to the communities.
